10U Practice/Game Curriculum

Remember No Heading - Review with the team!

Week 1

Practice 1 - Ball Control
5 min - Introduce yourself and have the players introduce themselves. Explain No Heading. Ask questions about proper dribbling, passing, and shooting techniques.
10 min - Pass To Teammate Using Both Feet - Make two lines of six cones with an even number of pairs in each line. Have each pair pass their way through the six cones. Once all pairs get to the end send the back the other way. If you have an odd number of players have a coach go with someone or someone goes twice.
10 min - Cushion Control In Pairs
15 min - Split Lines To Receive - If you have 14 players create 2 grids next to each other. Have the extra pair rotate into the first grid. The pair who is rotated out of the 1st grid rotates into the second grid. The pair that rotates out of the 2nd grid rests. run each rotation for about 2 mins with quick rotations. If you have 15 players, make the grid slightly larger and use groups of three. Rotate the groups in every 2 mins.
15 min - Box To Box

Practice 2 - Attacking
10 min - Mirror Movements To A Cone - Setup 3 areas with multiple pairs. Each pair works for 1 min and then switch to the next pair.
10 min - Chose Your Target - Setup two areas using 2 groups of players. Setup the areas to mirror each other so that you as a coach and see both areas.
10 min - Chose Your Partner - Place multiple players at each cone and rotate goalies.
10 min - 1v1 Shooting - use cones instead of poles/flags
15 min - 3v3 with 2 point zones - set up 2 playing areas. Rotate resting teams into both playing areas. Play for 3 min before rotating the resting team in. Have teams work hard for the 3 mins.

Week 2

Practice 3 - Defending - download/print
5 min - Quick Warm-up - Explain proper defensive technique - one foot in front of the other about should width. Slightly bent knees. On balls of the feet. Try to direct defender to defensive help or to the sidelines (left up to coaches philosophies). Pressure, Cover, Balance (team). 
10 min - 1v1 continuous
10 min - 1v1 continuous no tackle
10 min - 1v1 continuous side cone goal
10 min - 1v1 continuous with attacker facing away from goal
15 min - 3v3 - Tackle in a 3v3 - set up two goals using cones. Attacker must dribble the ball through the cone goals to score. Remind about proper defensive technique. 

Practice 4 - Restarts - download/print

2-3 min - quick warmup
5 min - Kickoff - Forward March - Practice your style of kickoff - BALL NO LONGER NEEDS TO GO FORWARD - diagrams show examples.
5 min - Throw In: The Law - Review how to throw in a ball - set up a throw in play
10 min - Throw In: Score From Throw In
5 min - Corner Kick: The Law - Review the rules of a corner kick and how to take a corner kick. Review that once the ball moves completely over the corner arc line the ball is live. Explain while the team is at a corner.
10 min - Corner Kick: Corner Kick Battle - Remember No Heading - Review with the team! Teach to move and react to the ball. Find ways to mover forward to the ball. Timing and concetration is key.
10 min - Free Kick: The Law - Remember No Heading - Review with the team! - Explain the difference of direct and indirect kicks. Teach them the way you want take your kicks and from different field positions.
5 min - Penalty Kick: The Law - Make sure to review that no one can enter the penalty box (including arc) until the kick is made. Teach to crash the net for rebounds (to score and to clear). Explain to aim kicks for the side panels and different techniques for taking penalty kicks.
10 min - Penalty Kick: In or Out - Keep things moving quickly. 
5 min - Have a quick review session.

Week 3

Practice 5 - Game 1 - download/print
5 min – For warmup setup a 20x20 grid. Space all the players evenly around the grid. If the team has 12 players you will have 3 on each side. On your call, have all the players dribble back and forth across the box at good pace. The players should try to avoid other players by practicing different moves, dribbling into space, adjusting their speed, and keeping their head up. Make sure they are practicing turns has the get to each side. The drill should be done a high pace. The players should count how many times they make it back to the side they started at. The focus is dribbling technique, awareness, and conditioning.
10 min - 1v1 To Goal
10 min - 1v1 To Goal Bogies
Game – 4 x 10min quarters with 2 minute breaks between quarters and 5 minute halftime

Practice 6 - Game 2 - download/print

10 min – 5 Pass Possession Game
10 min – Triangle Goal Game – Use Cones for the triangle goal.
Game – 4 x 10min quarters with 2 minute breaks between quarters and 5 minute halftime

Week 4

  Practice 7 - Game 3 - download/print

5 min – 1 vs. 1 Continuous: Immediate Pressure - recommend using two 10x10 grid
5 min - 1 vs. 1 with a Server: Immediate Pressure 2 - recommend using two 10x10 grid
5 min – 1 vs. 1 with a Server: 50/50 Ball -  recommend using two 10x10 grid
Game – 4 x 10min quarters with 2 minute breaks between quarters and 5 minute halftime

Week 5

  Practice 9 - Game 5 - download/print

5 min – Dynamic Warmup – High Knees, Heel Kick Ups, Carioca, Solider Kicks, Bounding, Power Skips, Open The Gate, Close The Gate, Backwards run, Arm Windmills (forward/backward), jog to sprint runs

10 min – Stuck In The Mud warmup – see pdf
