WHAT IS U8 MICRO SOCCER?
U8 Micro Soccer is a coed developmental program designed for players ready for a more structured practice and game environment.
The focus remains development first. Learning comes before winning. Scores are not emphasized.
With smaller fields and 5v5 play (including goalkeepers), players continue building skills while learning spacing, teamwork, and basic game awareness.
AGE REQUIREMENT
Eligible birth years for the 2026 season:
Aug 1, 2017 - Jul 31, 2019
Players older than 8 years old may not play in U8 Micro Soccer.
**New Registration Update**
Beginning this season, we are moving to the seasonal year registration system (August 1 – July 31). Players will now be placed into divisions based on their birthdate within this school-year calendar. This change helps keep age groups aligned with classmates and supports smoother development at each level. Please use the chart below to find your child’s division based on their birthdate, and reach out if you have any questions.
TEAM STRUCTURE
• Teams are formed after registration closes
• Each team roster typically contains 10 players
• Maximum of 12 players per team
• Rosters are kept smaller to ensure playing time and development
To help keep teams balanced and fair, special team requests will only be considered if the requesting parent is a volunteer within the club.
SCHEDULE
• Teams meet twice per week
• Tuesdays and Thursdays
• Session times:
– 5:30 PM – 6:45 PM
– 7:00 PM – 8:15 PM
• Each session lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes
The first two weeks of the season will focus on practice only (no games) to allow teams to build skills and prepare for competition.
WHAT EACH SESSION LOOKS LIKE
First 25 minutes: Team Practice
• Structured, pre-planned training sessions
• Weekly practice plans are created by the club’s Director of Soccer Programming
• All teams follow the same development plan
• Players work on dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, and game awareness
Next 5 minutes: Transition to game setup
Final 40–50 minutes: Gameplay
• 5v5 format (4 field players plus a goalkeeper)
• Four 10-minute quarters
• Two-minute breaks between quarters
• Five-minute halftime
• Games are controlled by one or two referees
• Scores are not emphasized
Playing time is rotated evenly.
No player will play three quarters before all other players have played two quarters.
Games conclude with a handshake and snack time.
FIELD & EQUIPMENT
• Games played on designated Micro Soccer fields
• Smaller goals (approximately 5' x 10')
• Size 3 soccer ball
IMPORTANT SAFETY RULE
There is NO heading at this age.
Any headed ball will result in a dead ball and possession awarded to the opposing team at the spot of the infringement.
Heading is not taught in U8.
A NOTE FOR PARENTS
U8 is often where players begin to truly understand the game.
They will learn:
• How to play as a team
• Basic positioning
• How to compete in a healthy way
• How to manage wins and losses
• Responsibility on and off the field
Some games will look organized. Others will look chaotic. That is part of development.
The goal is steady growth, confidence, and building a strong technical foundation that prepares players for the next level.
