WHAT IS U16 COED MICRO SOCCER?
U16 Micro Soccer continues the developmental pathway while increasing pace, physicality, and game understanding.
The focus remains on growth, accountability, and playing the game the right way.
Players will continue refining technical skills while improving tactical awareness, communication, and teamwork.
AGE REQUIREMENT
Eligible birthdates for the 2026 season:
Aug 1, 2010 – Jul 31, 2013
Players older than 16years old may not participate in U13 Soccer.
TEAM STRUCTURE
• Teams are formed after registration closes
• Rosters are structured to promote playing time and development
• Balanced teams are prioritized
To help keep teams fair and competitive, special team requests will only be considered if the requesting parent is a volunteer within the club or team sponsors.
SCHEDULE
Practice Phase
• Two weeks of practice beginning the week of June 8, 2026
• Focus on conditioning, ball mastery, team shape, and game preparation
Game Phase
• Games played Tuesdays and Thursdays
• 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
• Games begin June 22, 2026
• All games played at Packard Field in Lakewood, NY
FORMAT
U16 will play 5 field players plus a goalkeeper (5v5 + GK).
This format allows:
• Increased involvement for every player
• Faster decision making
• Continued goalkeeper development
• Stronger technical repetition under pressure
WHAT EACH SESSION LOOKS LIKE
During Practice Weeks
• Structured training sessions
• Technical development under pressure
• Tactical instruction and positional awareness
• Fitness and conditioning appropriate for age
During Game Weeks
First 25 minutes: Team Practice
• Structured, pre-planned training sessions
• Weekly practice plans
• All teams follow the same development framework
• Focus areas include passing combinations, movement, defending principles, and finishing
Next 5 minutes: Transition to game setup
Final 60 minutes: Gameplay
• 5v5 format (4 field players plus a goalkeeper)
• Four 15-minute quarters
• Two-minute breaks between quarters
• Five-minute halftime
• Games are controlled by one or two referees
• Scores are not emphasized
Playing time is rotated fairly.
No player will play three quarters before all other players have played two quarters.
Games conclude with a handshake and team wrap-up.

A NOTE FOR PARENTS
At the U16 level, players begin to take greater ownership of their development.
They will learn:
• Game awareness and decision making
• Team communication
• Leadership and responsibility
• Handling competition with maturity
This is a key developmental stage. The goal is continued technical growth while building confidence, resilience, and love for the game.
